An original Grinder sandwich

The Grinder

The Grinder opened its' doors as DiGangi's Grinder on July 3, 1963. Peter DiGangi owned and operated The Grinder until 1988 when he retired and leased the business to his Manager, Bob Helt. You could still run into Pete at the Grinder until he passed away in 1994. When Pete passed, Bob and his wife, Margaret, purchased the business.

Since then, Bob & Margaret have made a few changes to enhance their business. The first change was to open the business 7 days a week. They made 1/2 sandwiches available and decided to give the option of putting bacon, pickles, mayonnaise and mustard on the sandwiches. Pete would turn over in his grave at the thought of mayo or mustard on one of his sandwiches. He once kicked someone out of the store for asking. Even though they offer some new items, they strive to insure if you ate at The Grinder 40 years ago, you could come back today and remember the flavor of the past.

The B.(acon) L.(ettuce) T.(omato) was added to the menu about 10 years ago. In addition to sandwiches, they now offer a “Sandwich In a Bowl” for the carb. counters. You can have any sandwich ingredients on a bed of lettuce with your choice of oil and vinegar or Ranch dressing on the side.

The online menu features photos and detailed descriptions of each sandwich.
